GI-21

Die GI-21 vom amerikanischen Hersteller National Union ist - wie auch die GI-10 - eine der ältesten Nixies der Welt; sie besitzt handgebogene Ziffern, und zudem hat sie die Besonderheit, dass sie kein Anodengitter besitzt, also die umgebenen Ziffern als Anodengitter benutzt werden müssen.

Die GI-21 ist im Vergleich zu ihren 17.5mm Ziffernhöhe ziemlich lang aufgebaut:

So sieht die GI-21 im Ruhezustand aus; man erkennt leicht die handgebogenen Ziffern:

Es ist sehr schwer, mit der GI-21 ein klares Leuchtbild zu erzeugen (ähnlich wie schon bei der GI-10), hier das Ergebnis:

Insgesamt lässt sich die GI-21 besser als die GI-10 ansteuern, vielleicht war die GI-21 ja ein späteres verbessertes Modell von National Union.

Man braucht wohl nicht zu erwähnen, dass die GI-Serie von National Union nicht lange auf dem Markt geblieben ist, da die Ansteuerungselektronik sehr komplex hätte sein müssen.

Leider besitze ich kein Datenblatt zur GI-21. Sollte jemand im Besitz dieses Datenblattes sein, würde ich mich über eine Mail diesbezüglich sehr freuen.

GI-21

The GI-21 from the American manufacturer National Union is (like the GI-10) one of the oldest Nixie tubes. The digits are bent by hand, and there is no anode mesh, thus the surrounding digits have to be used as anodes respectively.

The whole GI-21 is a rather long construction, given its medium digit height of 17.5mm:

It is rather hard to establish a clear flicker-free glowing in these tubes (same thing as with the GI-10), here you can see my success:

Generally, it is easier to drive the GI-21, because this tube just glows better than the GI-10. Maybe the GI-21 was a later model from National Union that had already been improved.

The glowing Nixie tube looks simply spectacular:

It is probably not confusing that National Union Nixie tubes did not stay on the market a very long time: because of the lacking anode construction, driver circuits would have had to be rather complex.

Unfortunately, I do not have any datasheet for the GI-21. If someone can provide me with a datasheet, please email me.
